'Safeguarding is effective.'
Ofsted, November 2018

Safety Intent

At Hodnet Primary School, we provide a safe and secure atmosphere for pupils to learn and thrive. We pride ourselves on our welcoming, supportive and safe learning environment. Our Safeguarding principles and procedures were recognised by Ofsted as being effective and fit for purpose and we were praised by the inspector due to all our pupils feeling safe and well cared for.

We work closely with Ian Barlett, the crime prevention officer from the Safer Schools team in addition to the local policing team to ensure our school site is safe for pupils, staff and visitors. We hold regular meetings to discuss the safety of our school site and welcome advice from professionals in order to maintain a high level of safety and security.

Safety Crew:

At Hodnet Primary School, we elect a team of children representatives to be on our Safety Crew Team. The Safety Crew wear star badges and have their photographs up in the school hall so that they can be identified by other children. The main purpose of the team is to work with staff and governors as the pupil voice within health, safety and safeguarding. They promote safe choices within school and help to ensure that our site is safe and welcoming.

The Safety Crew met with Ian Barlett leader of the Safer Schools team at our annual Safer Schools meeting. They received the certificate to certify that we are a safer schools accredited site and they enjoyed asking questions and talking about ways to keep everyone safe, happy and healthy.
